Throwback Thursday

This song, originally a middle Irish poem penned by 6th century poet Dallán Forgaill, was intended to be a prayer to express a deep longing for God’s guidance and presence. Its message is one of devotion, calling for God to be at the center of everything—vision, wisdom, and strength—in both the monumental and insignificant details of daily life. It was later translated into English in 1905 by Mary Elizabeth Byrne, and made into verse by Eleanor Hull in 1912.

Heavenly Father,

Though we desire for you to be the central focus of our lives, we confess that we often wrestle with our own selfishness. Today, we lay down our worldly possessions and our own ambitions for the treasure of you. We are in desperate need of your divine guidance, protection, and wisdom. May the supernatural light of your presence radiate in our hearts today so that we may reflect you to a world lost in darkness.

Amen
