What if the seemingly minute details that make up the “in between” are actually invaluable opportunities to experience and participate in the supernatural? And what if we are habitually, without even realizing it, allowing those holy moments to pass us by each and every day?
What if there is so much more to this life on earth that we’re all just….missing? And all because we simply won’t slow down enough to notice and partake.
Think back to Moses’ miraculous encounter with God – a bush randomly engulfed in flames would be enough to make anyone stop what they’re doing and wonder why. However, Moses looked beyond the initial flames with enough curiosity to perceive that though the bush was on fire, it was not being consumed by the flames. This observation spurred him to lean in for a closer look – one that would change his entire life.
In that moment, God took something ordinary and made it extraordinary…and then patiently waited for Moses to simply notice. Had Moses been too consumed with his “to-do list” for the day and the distractions that were constantly fighting for his attention, he very well could have missed this holy invitation.
This encounter allows us a glimpse into the heart of God: He longs to be pursued and therefore discovered by His children. However, He does not force Himself into our lives or our hearts. He could, in His almighty power and sovereignty, demand that we see His every move and praise Him for it. But, what kind of relationship is that? One that is founded in obligation, not love. So, instead, He gently beckons us to recognize where He is moving and partner with Him in bringing about His kingdom on Earth.
Spend some time in prayer today, asking our good Father to open your eyes and illuminate any “burning bushes” you may otherwise walk right on by. Ask Him for the spiritual insight to notice all that is right in front of you when you finally slow down enough to “see.” And finally, ask Him for the courage to accept His invitation to use you as a vessel for Him and His great plans.
