Perspective is a powerful thing, which is why Paul was emphatic about the importance of renewing our minds and setting our sights on the things of heaven, not earthly things. He knew the danger in settling for what our human eyes can perceive when God has so much more to show us if only we’re willing to look at it with our spiritual eyes, instead.
Through the Holy Spirit, we have the power to see things through an entirely different lens: people, situations, circumstances, responsibilities, conflict, conversations, even our mundane daily tasks – everything presents an opportunity for us to exercise our spiritual vision.
We get to choose where we set our gaze.
And there’s power in that…but “with great power comes great responsibility.”
We have to train for the prize of perspective.
A rainy day – perfect storm to wallow in OR perfect excuse for some much-needed relaxation?
A blank canvas – intimidating threat of failure OR expectant space for creativity?
That mistake you made last week – proof of your shortcomings OR a chance to practice repentance?
That relationship you let go of – an impossible loss OR an opportunity to trust God’s leading?
That setback you weren’t expecting – the end of an old dream OR the catalyst for an even better one?
That invitation that feels like a burden – a dreaded sacrifice OR fresh soil for life-changing fellowship?
That promise that seems slow in coming – an unfair delay OR evidence of God’s protection?
Let’s stretch ourselves to see past the natural and into the supernatural as we are transformed through the renewal of our minds.
Because changing what we SEE changes how we THINK.
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” Romans 12:2.
