Challenge of the week: Participate in Foster Care Awareness Month

As of 2025, there are over 390,000 children in the foster care system in the United States, each one a precious image-bearer of God with their own unique story. Sadly, the number of licensed foster parents is on the decline, now nearing just 200,000.

What are some ways you can get involved, even if this isn’t your season to foster? (swipe)

Follow both Promise686 and Commission127 on your socials and explore their websites, which are rich with valuable resources. We’ve had the privilege of working closely with these incredible organizations to build care teams in our local church. They can provide you with next steps.

If you know a family who is currently fostering, there are practical ways you can offer to “wrap around” them in support and to lighten their load:

  • Prepare and deliver a meal
  • Help with household chores: cleaning, laundry, running errands
  • Donate essential items: clothing, bedding, toys, hygiene products
  • Provide gifts cards for the grocery store, gas, or restaurants
  • Offer to provide respite care (required screening process)

Consider finding a local faith-based foster care organization and either volunteer or support them financially.

Maybe you’ve been contemplating whether or not you should take the plunge into foster care yourself, or maybe it’s a step you’ve never considered before. Take some time to pray and seek the Lord’s face about whether now is the right moment to take that next step.

“God sets the lonely in families.” Psalm 68:6
