In 1902, after an unsuccessful attempt to raise funds for her lifelong dream of becoming a missionary in Africa, Adelaide Pollard wrote the four verses of this hymn. The inspiration came during a prayer meeting, where she overheard an elderly woman fervently pray, “It really doesn’t matter what you do with us, Lord, just have your own way with our lives.” Though Pollard was eventually able to serve in Africa for a brief time, God used her willing spirit to touch many lives through education, evangelism, and missions, fulfilling her calling in ways she had never imagined.
Father, we know that Your heart’s desire for us is to glorify You in all things. We pray that You would have Your way in our lives, for there is no better place for us to be than fully surrendered to Your will. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, so that through our lives, others may see the fruit You promise when we live in complete obedience to You. May every moment reflect Your love, grace, and truth, and may we be vessels that bring You honor in all that we do.
