Mothers who loved us well
Who raised us to be strong
Mothers who treat us like their kids
When to them we don’t belong
Mothers who have left this world
Breaking our hearts in two
Mothers who didn’t know how to love
And forgiveness we walked through
Mothers who mourned immediate loss
Before their lives had started
Mothers who brought babes into the world
But too soon from them were parted
Mothers in the making
Taking in the joyous ride
Mothers who when heard the news
They couldn’t help but cry
“Mothers” in the hearts of those
Who desperately want that name
Who yearn, and ache, and plead with God
When every month turns up the same
Whatever path your feet are on
Know this wholly to be true
Our Father’s love is deep and wide
And today we pray for you
