Challenge of the Week:
Celebrate John the Baptist Day!
Around the 4th century, a celebration to honor John the Baptist was added to the Christian liturgical calendar. A significant member of our spiritual ancestry, John the Baptist was responsible for both preparing the way for and baptizing the long awaited Messiah – Jesus.
Some ideas to honor our spiritual forefather:
- Prepare the way for others to meet Jesus
- Invite someone into your home to share a meal
- Invite someone for coffee
- Invite someone to lunch
- Read the story of John the Baptist around the dinner table and discuss ways for your family to be modern day harbingers of the gospel
- Make a bonfire as a place of gathering for friends and family to share stories of how each of you came to faith and the story behind your baptisms
- Are you a believer who hasn’t been baptized yet? Maybe this is your sign to consider taking that next step
Who is one of your favorite spiritual ancestors and what personal impact have they had on you? Drop your answer in the comments.
