Mini Monday

Are you a part of culture cancel?

Those places where we erect stone walls when we are done casting them at people who are different from us?

We do this to protect ourselves,

to make sure everyone knows where we stand,

to do what we believe is right in the eyes of God.

But Jesus didn’t commission us to throw stones.

He commissioned us to go.

He commissioned us to make disciples.

To be in the world, not of it.

It’s hard to do that when we create an “us” versus “them.”

It’s hard to do that when we alienate the very people we are called to evangelize.

It’s hard to do that when we get so easily offended.

We. Get. So. Easily. Offended.

So we cancel the culture around us.

We label.

We post.

We boycott.

But why are we surprised that the world lives by its own standards?

It should not shock us.

It should break our hearts.

It should drive us to repentance.

It should drive us toward them – the mission field.

Not in anger.

But in love.

Because when we cancel the culture around us,

We cancel the very people we are called to serve.

We cancel the ones we are called to love.

We cancel the ones who are image bearers of God.

We cancel the ones still trapped in darkness.

And we hold the hope.

We hold the light.

We hold the key.

But no one receives a gift from a messenger who is angry.

If we truly follow Jesus, we don’t get to choose who is worthy of compassion.

We don’t get to hold the light and hide it from the darkness.

The gift of salvation isn’t meant to be guarded. It’s meant to be given.

So let’s drop the stones.

Let’s tear down the walls.

Let’s step into the mess of others, not with pride or offense, but with love.

Because to cancel culture is to cancel the mission field.

But the mission hasn’t changed.

And neither has the heart of God.
